sculpture – in progress – by Holly Suzanne
On Form
as texture,
an enabling contact,
that if something matters
it will be
informed by us
when perceived
and then translated
the calla lilies
with their winding stems
and supple flowers;
each leg informs a dress
while the breast transforms the torso
as movement –
similarity,
exactly that comparison and difference
filling all the spaces
never empty
except we name them so;
your hands informed this clay,
transforming,
from state to state to state
like ice and steam and liquid
of the water as it matters,
now held within my gaze,
translating
hand to hand to hand
the I
devises language,
number, color, context
angle, pleasure, measure,
the shaping and the making
meaning each again
so a form is a relation
some object to another -
each as subject -
to encounter
and engage
we know
through what we handle
the forms
we apprehend
